The University of the West Indies, Mona campus School of Dentistry started in 2010, and the school's philosophy centers on developing future dentists under the concept of an Oral Physician who is ethical, empathetic and professional. The five-year programme combines small-group teaching with information and communication technology and integrated simulation training culminating in focused clinical practice. In 2013, the school was one of only 10 institutions worldwide that integrated the DentSim technology in teaching. This technology allows our students to be more accurate, confident and competent in the field of dentistry as they prepare to treat patients. The technology equips this laboratory with computer integrated simulators so our students can simulate clinical procedures in a controlled setting before seeing an actual patient. The school's goal is to expand the reach of this particular technology throughout the pre-clinical preparation of students, and to increase the use of technology in preparing the students to enter the wider dental profession.
