Many Caribbean Tertiary level institutions have institutionalized aspects of Student Personnel Administration within their organizational structure. However, there is no standardized model defining the organization and administration and the required competency areas for the effective delivery of Student Services/Affairs.

This course exposes students to the  competency areas that are required to manage the Department of Student Services/Affairs and Units and facilities within the Department, as Administrators; Leaders and Transformative Educators.  The aim is to ensure that Student Personnel Professionals are grounded in theories and research which will:

  • help them to understand and evaluate the organizational models in Caribbean tertiary level institutions
  • direct them to make informed judgments as they seek to influence qualitative/affective/social student learning and development
  • help them to define the nature of leadership and apply the leadership style that is appropriate in a given situation
  • help them to devise and implement appropriate theory based actions in order to present the entire campus as a learning community
  • to assess the campus' cultural mix and use competency in multiculturalism to deal with challenges of diversity.
