This course develops student competence in the taxonomy of reef-building corals, the ecology of coral reef communities, the dynamics and functioning of coral reef ecosystems, and the impact of natural and anthropogenic factors on coral reefs in the context of the Caribbean region. Throughout the course the emphasis will be on the Caribbean and the interconnections of reefs throughout the region, however, comparisons will be made to reefs from other regions.
