HIST 2804 provides an introduction to the archaeological study of human prehistory from the evolution of our earliest ancestors in Africa up to the rise of agricultural civilizations and the "historic” period around the world. Modern humans are the product of a longer story that began over 5 million years ago across a variety of geographic locations including: Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Archaeology is necessary to bring together material evidence from a variety of sites inhabited before the advent of formal writing systems. Through course assignments and in-class discussion, you will be introduced to the exciting world of prehistoric archaeology in a global context.
