This course surveys the evolution of nationalist thought in the Caribbean from the Creole nationalism of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to the radical and Pan-Caribbean nationalism of the late twentieth century. It explores the emergence of the federal idea in the region advocating the creation of one united Caribbean nation or the political unity of some of the Caribbean territories along linguistic lines. This is a course in Caribbean intellectual history that should appeal to students with an interest in politics.
