What is archaeology? HIST 1801 provides an introduction to the theoretical and practical aspects of archaeology including its history, multidisciplinary nature, research methods, and policies guiding its application in modern societies. While outlining significant events from the human past, this course is more about the techniques, methods and theories used to decipher the past. By the end of the semester, students will be able to connect the often dirty, broken bits of objects to the reconstruction of human experience in different times and places, which is necessary preparation for further study in history and archaeology at The University of the West Indies and beyond.
