The course involves providing a definition of historic landscape, and identifying a variety of these locations throughout the English, French, Spanish and Dutch Caribbean, establishing the essential features of them which correspond with the official definition. It also involves an examination of the history of tourism and eco-tourism in the region, and an explanation for the links between historic landscapes, heritage and ecotourism. The course also involves an assessment of the value of ecotourism to preservation, conservation and management of eco-systems and historical landscapes in the Caribbean, and the value of historic landscapes and ecotourism to sustainable development in the Caribbean. An examination of the marketing of a historical landscape site in the region for the ecotourism product is also addressed in this course.
