As part of its ongoing efforts to better prepare prospective graduates for the world of work, this internship provides students with a firsthand experience in journalism. The internship provides practical experience opportunities during the summer, at the end of the student’s second year at CARIMAC for those students doing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Journalism. It allows students to get involved with activities and projects that further hone the skills learnt in journalism.

Under the CARIMAC Internship, each student is required to complete a minimum of 160 hours at a selected organization, prior to graduation. The student must be placed under the supervision of someone who is knowledgeable and engaged in the area in which the student is being trained at CARIMAC. This internship supervisor will be guided by an internship coordinator who will provide orientation and direction regarding overseeing the student’s work and other relevant internship matters.

The internship is normally served after completing level II of the journalism programme, during the summer semester between levels II and III so that students can apply what they have learned so far. Subsequently, students return to the final year of the programme with a greater appreciation of the practice of journalism after being exposed to the institutional and occupational culture of a media house and to professional practice in media. The degree for the BA in Journalism will be awarded only after the successful completion of this component of the programme.
