As a core course for first year students in CARIMAC’s undergraduate degree programmes, this course focuses discussion on the existing and emerging issues, themes and challenges facing Caribbean societies and the role played by a technologically driven media and communication industry. You will interface with the scholarly contributions of Caribbean scholars and thinkers and apply the relevant themes and issues to the ongoing discussion of communication, media, Caribbean society and culture. Topics include The Meaning of Meaning, Representation as Re-presentation, Globalization, Envelopment and Development.
