This course involves the student in the practical and ‘hands-on’ aspects of archaeological work, from working on an archaeological field excavation to processing archaeological finds in a laboratory setting. Archaeological fieldwork will take place on a local Jamaican site (12 to 14 days), where the student will learn proper excavation and site recording techniques, in addition to archaeological survey and site mapping. Upon returning from the field students will then undertake the formal analysis of material recovered from the excavation. Emphasis will be on full post-excavation analysis and interpretation of main material and artefact types such as ceramics, lithics, shell, and bone.
