Welcome to SPMA 6515 Principles of Sports Project Management. This course emphasizes the application of the Principles outlined in the Project Management Book of Knowledge PMBOK Guide, Sixth Edition to the current sports environment. The aim is to aid students with developing a professional approach to project management in sport organizations and entities. Participants will learn the frameworks for aligning Project Management skills, knowledge and techniques to provide successful deliverables for sport organizations, clubs, departments and projects.
In executing their role as sport leaders, managers are likely to encounter sport projects of varying scopes. In instances where it is not feasible to contract a Project Manager, Heads of Sport organizations may be required to lead small or mid-size projects in addition to their substantive functions. A course in Sport project management will provide the foundation for sport managers to tackle special projects that contribute to the productivity of their organisations. The course highlights inter alia, project management techniques, selecting a project team, project monitoring and mitigating barriers to sport project success. Each participant will plan and execute an assigned sport project.
The course will be delivered in an online format with a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Your synchronous sessions will run on Mondays from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Use the link labelled live class in this introductory week to access these sessions. You are expected to log on to the course every week and make sure you are up to date on the required readings and activities. For some weeks there will be discussion forums. During these weeks you will have to log on daily so you can engage in these graded forums.
Make sure to download and go through the course outline before you dive into the weekly activities.
