This course provides a historical background to the development of modern information services and focuses on the competencies required for successful reference interviews and the identification and evaluation of reference and other information resources. Practical activities that engender effective oral and written communication will be included as this is a critical component in the reference interview. The legal and ethical issues and the challenges information professionals face in using and disseminating information will be addressed. These include copyright, intellectual property, censorship, and academic integrity.
