This course will focus on the role of the dentist in the investigation of crime and death. Students will be exposed to theoretical knowledge and practical skills relating to the dento-legal investigation of wounds and death and will be taught to observe and analyse evidence at death scenes.The aim of the course is to provide student dentists a core knowledge on dental investigation matters such as personal identification, age and gender detection, bite mark and lip print investigations. Throughout the semester students will be provided with reading materials and case activities for class discussions. 

The learning objectives of this course: 

1. Understanding of the history of forensic dentistry.

2. Understanding the role of dentist and forensic dentist in a legal scene. 

3. The ability to understand concepts in age estimation, bite mark investigation. 

4. Apply the principles of Demirijan's and Kvaal's method in age estimation. 

5. Apply the computerized technology in detection of bite mark investigations. 

6. Understanding guidelines of report writing, and preliminary skills in writing forensic reports.
