Professional practice in all areas of media is guided by statute law, common law, ethical considerations and codes of conduct. Media practitioners in all specialisations and at all levels provide vital public services, beyond the mere delivery of information. They have important responsibilities and duties in relation to the survival of the human species and all other species. It is essential, therefore, that media professionals understand the organic connection between practice and principle insofar as it relates to these ideals and the legal and professional standards and ethics that support them. In this course students are expected to grasp these basic principles of law and ethics and develop the skill to apply them in their professional practice.
