The course introduces students to some of the main economic problems facing the productive sectors in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) ― Agriculture, Transportation, Tourism, and Industry. The course also discusses the measures that have been implemented to improve the workings of the CARICOM economies, and the major constraints that limit the full achievement of economic objectives. In addition, the course will touch on related macroeconomic problems of growth, development, balance of payments imbalances, and foreign indebtedness.
The objective of this course is to highlight the major economic problems that the Caribbean countries face as they seek to achieve growth and development.
A brief overview of the region’s economic history and performance will be followed by an in-depth look at the major challenges that stand in the way of growth and development.
This course provides an introduction to the economic aspects of international relations. The structure of the world economy and the major institutions governing international economic relations are examined.Special consideration is given to the position of developing economies within the international economic system.
