This course applies the principles of statistical analysis in the context of questions that arise in social policy realms. It reinforces an indepth understanding of elementary and intermediate level statistics and embraces a philosophical approach to understanding and dicriminating between different techniques.
At the end of this course the learner will be able to demonstrate the main techniques of conducting social science research, and the basics of analysing research data.
The
course is designed to enhance quantitative analysis skills of MPhil/PhD
students using SPSS / PSPP. The main topics of the course include the gathering
and handling of data sets, the transformation and analysis of data and the
presentation of findings. Participants will collect data and/or use dataset in
the Databank, to create data entry template, manipulate and analyse data using
the SPSS / PSPP package, and interpret results.
