This course is designed to upgrade the teaching skills of graduates of Teachers’ Colleges and universities and to prepare pre-trained teachers to function effectively in the secondary school. These teachers need to be aware of current trends in foreign language pedagogy and see how these impact on objectives of teaching and learning. Through the activities provided in the course, the students will gain experience in putting these new ideas into practice and will be better able to cope with multi-level/diverse groups as well as with gender differences.
Objectives:
The course is practical in nature and is designed to assist student teachers to:
- explore the characteristics of effective teaching and learning
- acquire skills in unit and lesson planning
- translate plans into classroom practice
- develop effective teaching techniques
- develop the ability to use/adapt the textbook for effective teaching
- teach students at different ability levels
- distinguish among the different types of foreign language syllabi
- prepare classes with gender differences in mind
- identify suitable websites to assist them in preparing lessons and teaching
