LING3001 builds on the skills and knowledge of LING1001 and LING2001. The course has both theoretical and practical content. The theoretical content develops your familiarity with phonological theory and your ability to solve complex data problems as it pertains to segmental, suprasegmental and autosegmental phenomena. The practical component involves the extraction and interpretation of data using speech processing software (PRAAT). This combination of activities is intended to enhance your analytic and research skills, and to increase your confidence in the use of software, online resources and professional tools in your work.
