This course is designed for the student to learn how to communicate with Spanish-speaking companies, institutions, customers and colleagues. It is aimed at facilitating the acquisition of the necessary linguistic skills and intercultural competences to manage administrative and commercial duties in Spanish in the field of business within Latin America and the Caribbean. The level of this course is C Proficient User according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (See Handbook Department of Modern Languages and Literatures 23). Particular consideration will be given to the diverse types of business correspondence, technical lexicon and grammar concepts to effectively perform in the Latin American business environment. Reading assignments and translation exercises (English into Spanish) will also be an integral part of this course. Classroom analysis and discussion will be essential for a deeper understanding of each of the topics and linguistics issues. For this reason, students are expected to regularly attend class with all assignments already solved. Teaching will be conducted in Spanish.
