This course is designed to provide students with a detailed exposure to the production planning and control problems encountered by operations managers in local service and manufacturing organizations. The types of problems to be examined include capacity planning, plant location, aggregate planning, inventory management, materials requirement planning, scheduling and waiting line models. Participants were provided with an introduction to some of these types of problems in an earlier course, MGMT2026 - Production and Operations Management. Through a series of actual problems encountered in the real world, students are provided, in this course, with a more comprehensive understanding of the significance of each of these types of problems in practice, and are introduced to more advanced models and techniques of solving these problems. The goal is to provide participants with hands-on experience in analyzing these problems and a comprehensive understanding of the appropriate techniques, which may be used as aids in solving them.
