As per the message from the campus registrar below please be informed that the University will be using the official email accounts to communicate with all its constituents. To this end please note that the email addresses that will be associated with your profiles on OurVLE will be your official UWI email addresses in the following formats:
Staff: firstname.lastname@uwimona.edu.jm
Students: firstname.lastname@mymona.edu.jm
Consequently, effective October 1, 2012 alternate email addresses will not be accommodated and we will not be held liable for any failure to be aware of information sent through these channels.

As you may be aware, many members of staff and students do not fully utilize the official UWI Email Address which they have been assigned. This often times causes serious challenges as the Campus considers this to be the official and main means of communicating important notices including policy decisions to its constituents.
Effective Thursday,August 2, 2012, the Campus will begin to enforce its communication policy and ONLY the official UWI Email Address assigned to staff,students and faculty members will be used for ALL official communication.
The format of official email address for staff and faculty is firstname.lastname@uwimona.edu.jm.Where there are multiple occurrences of a name, possibly because persons have the same first name/last name combination, a number starting at ‘02’ is added to the last name resulting in a format such as firstname.lastname02@uwimona.edu.jm.
For students, the format is firstname.lastname@mymona.edu.jm . A similar rule also applies where multiple occurrences of a name exists - a number starting at ‘02’is added to the last name resulting in a format such as firstname.lastname02@mymona.edu.jm .
We are aware that a number ofthese accounts may not be active and will therefore be granting a grace period not exceeding two (2) months for the complete re-activation of all such accounts.
Persons requiring further clarification or seeking help in accessing their official email account should contact Mona Information Technology Services (MITS) using any of the following:

The full enforcement of this policy will take effect on October 1, 2012. Thereafter, failure to receive and read communication delivered to your official UWI, Mona e-mail address in a timely manner will NOT absolve recipients from knowing and complying with the content of such communication.
